ArtSpan poster-child and gallery favorite Joshua Coffy will be setting up a display of available works this weekend as well as some great affordable print and gifting options. Coffy’s vibrant acrylic paintings feature darlings from the animal kingdom in a dynamic, layered effect with mixed media elements. Stop in Friday night for the Opening Reception featuring SF Open Studios artists as well as Bradley Platz’s amazing art.
Yesterday I had the great pleasure of working with people from all over the world (From Australia and Virginia to Fresno) to create a large interactive mural at the Treasure Island Music Festival. I was there with Allison Snopek from ArtSpan . Thank you Noisepop and Artspan for making it all happen. Thanks to Blick Art for donating supplies. Special thanks to the hard working volunteers. Thanks to Paige and Risa (sorry if I misspelled your names) for working really hard all day, as well.
We started around noon and didn’t get done till after sundown. Over 350 people participated in out art adventure to recreate 2 of my paintings. Thank you to all the artists! You all did a wonderful job. Take care.
We are just about 2 weeks away from the start of SF Open Studios. This is the nation’s longest running and largest Open Studios program. Each year artists invite all of you into their studios and work spaces to see their latest works and give you a taste of their process and environs. One of the nice thing about Open Studios is that you get to get up close to the artist and really get their full attention. I always enjoy seeing their work spaces and studios. It is a completely free event. So get the guide (at Blick and many other art outlets like galleries and coffee shops) and figure out which artists you are going to track down. As many people know, my painting ‘Young Family Walking Through It All’ is on the cover of the guide! I am honored and excited to be a part of Open Studios this year. Take care.
Check it out! Alan Bamberger took a photo of me live painting at the Academy of Sciences last month. I was there thanks to ArtSpan! So fun. See the whole report including my friend Cindy Shih, HERE.
